5. APHA: Check Emergency Kits When Turning Clocks Ahead
The American Public Health Association (APHA) launched a new campaign to encourage Americans to check their emergency preparedness kits when they change their clocks for daylight saving time on March 9.

6. Toxic Chemical Report Shows Reduction in Industrial Releases
On Feb. 21, EPA released its 2006 Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) to provide information on toxic chemicals used and released by utilities, refineries, chemical manufacturers, paper companies and other facilities. The data shows that nationwide, chemical releases into the environment were down 2 percent from 2005.

7. Unions Petition OSHA for Emergency Dust Standard
The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters filed a petition to OSHA to demand an emergency temporary standard to protect workers from combustible dust explosions, such as the recent fatal blast at a Georgia sugar refinery.
