WEEKLY NEWS
1. AIHce: The IH Value Proposition
The large crowd came close to being standing-room only for the June 3 opening general session of the American Industrial Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exposition (AIHce), and with good reason: the session examined the value industrial hygienists add to an organization’s bottom line and the important role IH professionals have in communicating this value throughout the organization.

2. Washington State Files Permanent Heat Stress Rule
The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) today filed a new permanent workplace rule to protect employees from outdoor heat exposure. The rule takes effect July 5.

3. U.S. Cities Inspect Cranes After Fatal NYC Collapse
New York City's latest string of crane accidents prompted cities across the nation to closely examine their crane operations to prevent more crane-related tragedies from occurring in the future.

4. New York Paper Mill Faces $116,250 OSHA Fine
OSHA cited Brownville Specialty Paper Products Inc. for 35 alleged willful and serious violations of safety standards following the death of an employee at its Brownville, N.Y.-based plant. The company currently faces $116, 250 in fines.

5. AIHce: Jeremy Rifkin and the Future of Work
Although the opening session of the American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exhibition (AIHce) in Minneapolis on June 2 was called “The Future of Work,” it just as easily could have been called “Power to the People.”

6. Congressman: NIOSH Moving Forward with TCE Study
A National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) study that will examine trichloroethylene (TCE) exposure and cancer rates among IBM employees who worked at the company's Endicott site is moving forward as expected with adequate funding, according to a New York congressman.
