Compact Equipment
Compact telehandler
Genie introduces the
GTH-5519 compact telehandler, which is designed for applications
requiring the versatility to lift, move and place various types of
materials and loads. The unit comes standard with 4-wheel drive and
three power-assisted steering modes. Maximum lift capacity is 5,500
pounds and the maximum lift height is 18 feet, 10 inches with a maximum
reach of 11 feet, 3 inches.

Skid steer
The Ditch Witch SK650 skid
steer comes equipped with a 31-hp Kubota turbo diesel engine.
Quick-disconnect attachment fittings enable attachments to be changed
with the hydraulic system under pressure. The SK650 is also equipped
with a foot pedal auxiliary control that allows the operator to drive
the attachment by foot, freeing up his hands to control depth and ground
speed. An attachment-level indicator is mounted to the attachment lift
frame, allowing the operator to see from the operator's station if the
attachment is level.

Breakers
Hydraulic breakers
The new Worksite Pro hydraulic breakers from John Deere feature a solid one-piece
design that does not need side bolts, which results in a tough breaker
that is suited to heavy-duty applications. The breakers can be used with
skid-steer loaders, compact-track loaders and compact excavators. The
low-pressure, nitrogen-charged design cushions operators from recoil,
while the narrow overall shape allows these breakers to work in tight
quarters and crowded jobsites. With few seals and moving parts, and no
special tools necessary, these breakers are engineered to offer
durability and simplified maintenance.

Breaker hammer
The new 70-pound, 15-amp breaker hammer from Makita features anti-vibration
technology designed for three times less vibration. The HM1810 delivers
1,100 blows per minute and 63.0 joules of impact energy. An automatic
brush cut-off system protects the motor and a warning indicator lamp is
designed to extend tool life.

Lawn & Garden Equipment
Power rake
The Turf Teq Power Rake is
designed for all types of seedbed preparation and turf renovation. The
unit features a 36-inch-wide drum. The pivot angle of the drum can be
adjusted to the left or right from the operator position. The unit also
features a hydrostatic transmission, 13-hp Honda engine and on-the-go
differential lock.

Hydroseeder
Finn's Hydroseeder features
hydraulically driven mechanical agitation systems and a direct-drive
engine, clutch and pump assembly for improved performance on the job.
The hydraulic system allows operators to mix thick slurry, alleviates
maintenance setbacks and prevents the pump from clogging. Finn offers
both the 300- and 600-gallon sizes to the rental industry.

Articulating pole hedge
trimmer
Tanaka introduces the
TPH-260PF new articulating pole hedge trimmer. With a 130-degree
articulating angle, it is designed for trimming tall hedges as well as
clearing tough ground cover. Powered by Tanaka's 25-cc, 1.3-hp PureFire
engine, key features include a 23-fluid ounce see-through fuel tank,
padded "D" handle, and a solid-steel drive shaft. The TPH-260PF contains
22-inch double-sided, dual reciprocating blades that can cut through
branches ¾-inches thick.

Other Products
Concrete and asphalt saw
Edco introduces the DS-18
concrete and asphalt saw. The DS-18 boasts a 13-hp gasoline engine or
5-hp electric motor with a heavy-duty, anti-vibration engine mount; a
7-gauge, solid-steel frame; 18-inch blade capacity with dual-arbor
cutting along with lifting handles; and a lifting bail as well as
perfect balance. According to the company, the key to performance, long
blade life, smooth and even cuts, and eliminating excessive wear and
tear on the machine is perfect balance.

Air compressor
The HP60CMH air compressor is part of the Ingersoll Rand Onboard Power Solutions
line and is designed to be mounted on standard-sized utility body
trucks. This hydraulic-drive, truck-mounted air compressor delivers free
air at 60 cfm at a rated operating pressure of 150 psi. Powered by the
hydraulic system on the truck, the HP60CMH requires 18.1 gpm of
hydraulic flow at 2,295 psi hydraulic pressure to maintain full-load,
continuous-duty operation. The unit will run light air tools and larger
pneumatic tools such as 50-pound breakers.

Centrifugal pump
The GP3410 industrial centrifugal pump from Shindaiwa features a
centrifugal-type pump, convenient-carry handle, push-button stop switch
and fully enclosed mechanical seals. The 34cc, 1.4-hp unit is powered by
the high-torque Shindaiwa 3410-series C4 technology engine. Each pump
contains all hardware and a strainer, as well as an electric ignition
system and a die-cast all-metal impeller. The GP3410 offers a two-year
consumer and one-year commercial warranty, and a limited lifetime
warranty of major ignition components.

Welding technology
The Surface Tension Transfer (STT) from Lincoln Electric is an arc
welding process used on the company's patented inverter-based power
source. The STT is designed to significantly reduce spatter and smoke
through the use of high-frequency inverter technology with advanced
waveform control. The STT process, which controls the electrode current
during the entire gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process, can be used with
100-percent carbon dioxide in combination with electrodes ranging from
.030-inch to .045-inch diameter. The technology produces a low-hydrogen
weld deposit and makes it easier to achieve a high-quality root weld in
all positions.

Deere Helps San Diego Prepare
for Worst
"Be Prepared" is the motto for the Boy Scouts, but it also could be
the motto for a huge project currently underway by officials in San
Diego, Calif., and John Deere
equipment is playing a major part in making it a reality.
The city of San Diego's Water Authority is building an 11-mile pipeline
(8.5 foot wide) designed to carry water from the San Vicente reservoir
to a vital pumping station in San Diego in the event of a major
earthquake or other emergency. In the event of a catastrophe, the
reservoir's water could supply the city for up to six months.
A project of this importance and magnitude required the best equipment
for the job. Traylor Brothers Construction Company, which was chosen for
the project, called on John Deere. The company purchased three John
Deere 744J loaders to handle the material from the excavation once it
was topside and also a John Deere 332 skid steer for cleanup work on the
job.
But the key equipment Traylor specifically needed was an excavator that
could be lowered into the narrow 70-to-90-feet deep shafts where the
boring machines deposit material. The John Deere 225C LC RTS (reduced
tail swing) excavator fits the bill because its 5-foot, 6-inch turning
radius and 7-foot, 3-inch arm can maneuver in the confines of the shaft.
The tunnel is approximately 12-feet in diameter, with depth ranging
between 50 and 600 feet underground.
"The reduced-tail-swing excavator fits the project like a glove," says
Richard Dotson, equipment manager for the project. "It was purchased
specifically for this project and was the largest machine we could lower
into the shafts. It has worked perfectly for our needs."
The $200 million Emergency Storage Project is expected to be completed
by late 2008. Much work is yet to be done, but Traylor's project manager
for the pipeline isn't worried about Deere equipment not performing.
"The equipment will be required to perform flawlessly as we go forward,"
says Mike Jatczak. "We have every reason to believe our expectations for
the Deere equipment will continue to be met."
