Telescopic
jib
The new Big Boom HB86 TJ+ from Haulotte has a telescopic jib that
offers a 19-foot, 8-inch reach and proportional controls that allow
operators to work in challenging and inaccessible jobsites. Other
features that allow the unit to operate in a wide range of working
environments include an outreach of 75 feet, 6 inches; an 8-foot
platform; and the capacity to rapidly lift heavy loads up to 772 pounds.
The boom and the jib, with its octagonal section made of high-elastic
modulus steel, are rigid and provide stability to the HB86 TJ+ for
improved operator comfort. The 3-section boom, which folds down directly
onto the turntable, also contributes to optimal working comfort. The
unit also offers a narrow fixed-width frame, an oscillating axle and a
differential wheel lock to allow for operation in cramped areas.

Trenchers
Walk-behind
trenchers
The Toro Company expands its
compact equipment line with the addition of two walk-behind trenchers
— the TRX-15 and TRX-19 tracked trenchers. The low-profile tracked
design provides a low center of gravity and a light footprint for
increased stability on side hills and smooth operation on uneven
terrain. The units feature a ground pressure as low as 4.1 psi and each
model trenches up to 36 inches. The TRX models feature a cross-trenching
capability and the tracks help the operator maneuver over perpendicular
trenches with little effort, where wheeled units may get stuck in the
existing trench. Both the 15-hp and the 19-hp TRX models feature
4-cycle, V-twin engines. A large oil reservoir helps maintain low engine
temperature and prolong engine life, and a dual-element KAI air cleaner
is designed to improve airflow, performance and reduce engine wear.

Mini-trencher
Ground Hog’s T-4
operator-propelled chain-type trencher is designed to dig up to a
12-inch-deep by 3-inch-wide trench. For digging in all soil conditions,
operators have a choice of carbide-tipped shark or bullet teeth.
Conversions for depths up to 12 inches by 4 inches wide or 18 inches
deep by 3 inches wide are also available. The T-4’s user-friendly,
compact design fits through narrow gates and doorways and easily
trenches near walls and fences. Its heavy gauge steel construction,
tapered roller bearings and double-row ball bearings ensure less
maintenance.

Compact
diesel engine
The Minimax Series from Yanmar
is a diesel power solution for lawn and garden equipment, small
agricultural machines, utility vehicles and compact generators. The
3TNM68 model is a 784cc, three-cylinder, Tier-4-compliant engine that
utilizes Yanmar’s proprietary indirect injection technology to provide
low fuel consumption and low emissions levels. Because of the compact
cylinder block design, the company has been able to provide higher
output levels relative to the compact size of the engine. The Minimax is
designed for applications that have tight space regulations and demand
for high output.

Case
Dispatches Crawler Dozers to Help With Levee Fortification In
Iowa
Case Construction Equipment
arranged last Friday for use of the first of several crawler dozers to
help fortify levees along the swollen Iowa and Mississippi rivers. The
emergency request is a result of the record rainfall in the Midwest last
week.
Case dispatched the first crawler dozer to Oakville, Iowa, which is
located near the Case manufacturing plant in Burlington. According to
Tracy Gach of the Case dozer product management team, Federal Levee
District 16 specifically requested the 850L because of its superior
performance under current, exceptionally muddy conditions, which require
extra flotation. Case has confirmed that Bob Hinson, an expert operator
with many years of experience working at the Case Proving Grounds in
Burlington, had volunteered to operate the dozer for this application.
The machine and operator since have been reassigned to Kingston, Iowa,
where they are supporting work at a pumping station.
In addition, on Saturday morning, Case put another 850L to work south of
Burlington, along with a 1650L and 1850K crawler dozer, which were
dispatched to Green Bay Bottoms along the Mississippi River. The company
also responded on Tuesday to a request from the National Guard to supply
a Case 580 Super M loader/backhoe. Current and retired Case employees
have volunteered their time to operate the equipment.
“We followed the news of devastating floods in Cedar Rapids and the
potential for serious flooding across other parts of Iowa,” said Jim
Hasler, vice president, Case Construction Equipment. “Case has a
strong track record of loaning equipment and other resources in
emergency situations, such as these levee fortification efforts. This
particular project hits extra close to home because one of our four key
North American manufacturing plants is in Burlington.”
Since the levees in Cedar Rapids were breached, Case has also been
contacted regarding the possibility of providing equipment for cleanup
efforts. Case is working with its local dealers in Iowa to arrange
assistance to flood-damaged areas.
Case has approximately 600 employees in Burlington, which is where the
company engineers and manufactures its flagship loader/backhoes,
rough-terrain forklifts and loader tool carriers.
