Compact Equipment
Compact track loader
The new Model MTL312 compact track loader from Mustang is the most compact of the Mustang track loader lineup. The unit has a dedicated track design, meaning the unit is built as a track loader with a heavy-duty undercarriage system versus being built as a skid-steer loader with a bolt-on undercarriage. The MTL312 has an operating weight of 5,952 pounds and a width of slightly less than 58 inches.

Dedicated trencher
Compact Power introduces the Boxer 118 dedicated trencher, which is the company’s first stand-on, compact trencher for the utility, irrigation and rental markets. The Boxer 118 offers an 18-hp air-cooled Kohler Command Pro gasoline engine with a chain speed of 280 feet per minute. The dirt-cut tooth chain is made of high-carbon steel with carbide tips and is complemented by a standard discharge auger, which pushes the dirt away from the trench while in operation. The 118 features a trenching depth of 24 to 36 inches with a width range from 4 to 8 inches.

High-Reach Equipment
Self-propelled articulating boom
The Jib-Extend telescoping jib on the Genie Z-135/70 self-propelled articulating boom extends the unit’s reach from 12 feet to 20 feet and provides a 110-degree vertical range of motion to reach up, over and in applications inaccessible by traditional booms. It also includes the Genie Fast Mast system that allows operators to lower the platform to ground level without having to lower the secondary boom. The Z-135/70 is designed with the XChassis expanding axle system for enhanced stability and flexibility for easy transport. The unit has a working height of 141 feet, a horizontal reach of 69 feet, 9 inches, an up-and-over clearance of 75 feet, 6 inches, and a lift capacity of 600 pounds.

Trailer-mounted articulating boomlift
UpRight introduces the TL34 trailer-mounted articulating boomlift that provides a working height of up to 34 feet and more than 16 feet of up-and-over outreach. The fold-down manual outriggers have a footprint of 9 feet, 6 inches, by 11 feet, 2 inches, and the entire machine weighs 2,624 pounds. The fully proportional hydraulic controls, powered by a 12-volt battery pack, are responsive and intuitive, while also ensuring the TL34 is simple to maintain. Hydraulic outriggers are available as an option.

Self-erecting crane
Potain’s Igo T 85 self-erecting crane from Manitowoc offers working heights between 66 feet and 115 feet with variations either through telescoping or adding auxiliary sections. The maximum tip height of the crane is 157 feet. The unit has a maximum capacity of 13,227 pounds, which it can lift at a radius of 51 feet. The Igo T 85 can unfold its jib to various lengths to give users optimum choice in reach and capacity. The crane can lift 2,755 pounds at its maximum radius of 148 feet. With the jib unfolded to 131 feet, the crane can lift 3,638 pounds at jib end.

Compaction Equipment
Double-drum oscillating roller
Sakai introduces the SW652ND, a 58-inch-wide double-drum oscillating roller that doubles as a double-drum vibratory roller. The SW652ND oscillates or vibrates on both drums simultaneously. Each drum is independently controlled for optimum flexibility. This technology is designed to achieve the required compaction faster on both thin and thick lift asphalt applications. The drums are cross-mounted such that the drive motors are on opposite sides of the machine, enabling the roller to roll straight, even at slow speeds. The unit is powered by a fuel-efficient, 78-hp Hino diesel engine that drives the machine’s traction, steering and compaction systems independent of each other. ROPS and seatbelts are standard safety features, as is Sakai’s exclusive three-way braking system.

Single-drum vibratory rollers
Bomag introduces the BW211-40 Series single-drum vibratory rollers. Featuring high output and maneuverability, the series consists of two models; the BW211D-40 (pictured) smooth roller and the BW211PD-40 padfoot roller. The BW211D-40 features a 22,930-pound operating weight, while the BW211PD-40 boasts a 25,785-pound operating weight. Dual vibrating frequencies and amplitudes customize the machines for different jobsite requirements. Both models deliver frequencies of 1,800 and 2,160 vpm across an 84-inch operating width. The smooth-drum roller generates 53,100 pounds of centrifugal force in high amplitude and 38,250 pounds in low amplitude, while the padfoot version provides 61,875 pounds of centrifugal force in high amplitude and 44,550 pounds in low amplitude.

Concrete Masonry and Saws
Concrete saw
Chicago Pneumatic offers the CP 0044 saw that provides a pneumatic-powered solution for cutting heavy-duty materials such as concrete, asphalt and stone. The 28-pound CP 0044 features a direct-drive, 4-hp motor and operates at 4,800 rpm. Requiring 43 cfm of air, the unit is designed for cutting in hazardous areas where the use of gas-powered tools is restricted. Available with 12- and 14-inch-diameter cutting blades, the saw provides a cutting depth of 4 inches. For additional safety, the unit includes a standard lock-off trigger that helps prevent accidental starting.

Cutting attachments
For efficient dust removal and collection in masonry-cutting applications, Bosch’s DC-Series attachments are designed to keep jobsites dust-free. Featuring a large, stable footplate and fast single-screw depth adjustment, the attachments allow for a full depth of cut and improved line-of-sight in precision concrete-cutting applications. Compatible with all Bosch one-touch guard system 4½- to 7-inch angle grinders, the attachments install tool-free for use in both cut-off and surfacing applications.

Product Spotlight
Atlas Copco: Clearing the way for a luxury hotel
Two famous mills of the Saltsjoqvarn area in Stockholm, Sweden, the Red Mill (1889) and the Semolina Mill (1920) have been converted into luxury apartments and a prestigious hotel. This reconstruction project, taken on by Atlas Copco and Brokk technology, required maximum care during planning and construction. Due to their historical value, the building shells needed to remain unaltered.

Starting in June 2007, the Rivners AB company accepted the challenge to gut the mills completely.

Demolishing the roof was also a difficult job. Section by section the roof’s parts were lifted down by a crane with a lifting capacity of 14 metric tons. Once the roof had been carried away, the floors were next to be battered down. Hugh beams were hewn away while supporting concrete beams had to be lifted down from about 20 meters. The operator could pilot the Brokk90 through the narrow spaces because of its slim body and low weight, making it possible to transport the unit in a common construction elevator.

The new luxury hotel will celebrate its grand opening in September 2009.
