1. Swift-Water Awareness Is Important For All
Responders
Typically, fire departments have the responsibility to conduct
swift-water rescues, but all responders (police, fire, EMS, public
works) should be aware of the dangers posed by swift-moving water.
Anyone who may find themselves within 10 feet of the water should have
swift-water awareness training.

4. CDC Releases State-Specific Emergency
Preparedness Report
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a
report on Feb. 20 assessing individual states’ progress in public
health emergency preparedness, noting several areas of improvement as
well as identifying remaining challenges.

5. ASPH: 250,000 Public Health Workers Needed
by 2020
According to an assessment conducted by the Association of Schools
of Public Health (ASPH), the United States needs more than 250,000
additional public health workers by 2020 to avoid a major public health
crisis.
