Classroom Amplification Systems: A Benefit for Teachers and Students
In this day and age of YouTube, handheld games, and iPods, there has been much research and study into how to visually stimulate kids to keep them interested in learning. The less glamorous, and arguably more important, part of learning comes from verbal instruction. "Video in the classroom is ahead of amplification in terms of awareness and implementation. Ironically, 60 percent to 80 percent of instruction is spoken word," says Bruce Bebb, marketing communications director for LightSpeed Technologies in Tualatin, Ore. "Classroom amplification is critical for literacy and language. In K-3, kids are often missing softer consonants and phonemes that provide meaning to language. And using classroom amplification, there is a 30-percent gain in word recognition for ESL kids." more>>

North Syracuse Central School District Standardizes on Hitachi
The North Syracuse Central School District in New York State recently outfitted two of its larger schools with Hitachi CP-X265 projectors. Roxboro Road Middle School and Gillette Road Middle School standardized on the CP-X265 in June 2006. The integration is a result of a partnership with Apreso customer and iTunes U aficionado The George Washington University (GW). "Automation is highly valuable in higher education because it facilitates the adoption of teaching and learning technologies," says John Arpino, GW academic technologies' senior programmer analyst and project manager for the iTunes U/Apreso initiative. Avocent Introduces New Wireless HD Extension Solution
Avocent's Emerge MPX1000 HD multipoint extender solution offers new options for AV delivery, capable of sending rich content through walls at HD resolutions. Incorporating High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) technology, the product is able to distribute content from a source to multiple display devices. High resolution computer graphics up to 1280x1024, HD video up to 720p, and stereo audio are wirelessly transmitted to as many as eight wireless or wired receivers.
