Diverse Environments Pose Challenge for Good Sound By Linda Seid Frembes
The diverse environments in a school setting pose constant challenges to administrators who are evaluating AV products for their school—particularly audio systems. From classrooms to hallways, cafeterias to auditoriums and gymnasiums, these varied settings cannot be addressed using a cookie-cutter design. Instead, schools should look at each type of room as its own application.

"In K-8, the applications are still about classroom announcements as well as public address (PA) systems for hallways," says Dave Raneses, brand manager for EAW Commercial, a loudspeaker manufacturer specializing in loudspeaker products for the commercial, institutional, and industrial markets. "At that age, it's about getting your message to them. In high school [9-12], the audio concept changes a bit, with systems that are more in tune with current technology and applications. At this level, schools are willing to spend money to get better sound." more>>

Butler University Invests in Audio Education Program with Install
Advanced audio education is fast emerging as the flagship of media studies programs worldwide. At Butler University, the $12 million Fairbanks Center for Communications recently completed a thorough upgrade by full-service design/integration/installation firm Professional Audio Design (PAD).

"PAD shared our vision as an educational facility," says Cutler Armstrong, lecturer for the Butler Media Arts Department. "They helped us to take full advantage of the studio space, and their experience working with universities allowed them to understand our objectives, as well our budget. Kramer Electronics US announced the release of the Sierra Video Systems' Lassen 88HD HD-SDI/SDI Routing Switcher. The Lassen 88HD Routing Switcher is the smallest model in the Lassen line of HD, digital, and analog routing switchers. TV Magic Installs On-Air Radio Broadcast and Production Booth at USC Annenberg School
Broadcast systems integrator TV Magic announced that it has completed a new radio broadcast and production installation at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication. The hybrid on-air broadcast and production booth designed and built by TV Magic allows the school to extend its hands-on multimedia course offering to include live radio news broadcasts through Annenberg Radio News.

"From the very beginning of my relationship with TV Magic, I was impressed by the care and attention the company's engineers dedicated to every project," says Chuck Boyles, director of multimedia production at the USC Annenberg School for Communication.
