Turning Technological Potential into Classroom Reality
Jim Moulton, an educational technology consultant based in Bowdoin, Maine, likes to relay an exchange he had with a kindergarten teacher at a conference session he was conducting in Tennessee. The teacher said: "Jim, I'm a kindergarten teacher, and I'm getting worried about the number of kids coming into my classroom who don't know how scissors work."

Yes, scissors—the lowest of low-tech tools in today's classroom—are a casualty to the increasing emphasis on high-tech learning. "We risk creating kids with a poverty of real-world experience but who are rich in virtual knowledge," says Moulton, who is also a staff member to the Maine Learning Technology Initiative and faculty associate of the George Lucas Educational Foundation. "The buzzword is '21st-Century skills,' but my term is 'any-century skills'—skills that go beyond technology to include life skills like writing a coherent paragraph." more>>

JBL Professional has announced that its Control 300 Series of large-format ceiling loudspeakers are now UL listed under UL1480 and UL2043. The UL listed models include Control 328C/328CT 8in. models, Control 321C/321CT 12in. models, Control 322C/322CT high-power 12in. models, and Control 312CS subwoofers installed into their corresponding MTC-300BB8 or BTC-300BB12 backboxes. more>>

Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya Chooses Ross Synergy
Ross Video announced the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya in Israel has chosen the Ross Synergy 2 SD and Synergy 100 SD Video Production Switchers to be installed in the Sammy Ofer School of Communications.

Onset Systems Engineering will handle installation and integration of the Ross Synergy switchers, and they have been involved in a consultancy and system design capacity since the conception of the project in early 2006. The first TV production is planned for the end of August 2007 with the continuation of a second phase that includes installation of a dedicated control room for a virtual studio utilizing a Ross Synergy 100 SD switcher. more>>
