Campus security has become a hot topic in the education market ever since the Virginia Tech shootings earlier this year. Both large and small educational institutions either added to or created new emergency response plans, with AV technology playing a major role. "Even prior to the Virginia Tech incident, educational facilities were looking to upgrade their old analog communication systems to newer technology. They started looking at IP-based technology as a means to deploy two-way communication quickly and cost-effectively," says Chris Coffin, CEO of Digital Acoustics, a manufacturer of IP intercom and paging solutions in Lake Forest, Ill. "Since Virginia Tech, there has been a ramp-up in using technology that can be rapidly deployed." more>>

Gadsden City High School Gets Danley Sound Labs Audio System
Opened in June 2006, Gadsden City High School is the newest high school built in northeast Alabama. The $30-million-dollar-plus project has 290,000 square feet under roof on a 53-acre gated campus. The school offers more than 150 courses, including many for advanced college placement; an augmented foreign language department; a highly decorated fine arts program; and comprehensive technical training. The facility has 70 classrooms, three computer labs, five science labs, a high-tech media center, a broadcast studio, three music rehearsal studios, two gymnasiums, and an 8,000-seat stadium. more>>

British loudspeaker manufacturer KEF announced the upcoming release of a complete range of high-performance speakers designed specifically for foreground music and music/paging applications.

Panasonic Introduces Plasma Bundle for Educators
Panasonic Professional Display Company has introduced two new educational bundles targeted for scholastic presentation and classroom environments.

Incorporating new 10-Series 50in. and 58in. plasma displays (TH-50PH10UK and TH-58PH10UK), the bundles are available in a variety of configurations designed to fit a school's mobile presentation needs. A durable mobile cart secures the Plasma in place for easy transport and versatility, and Panasonic's TY-FB10WPU wireless presentation module is offered as an option for wireless presentations from a laptop or PC to the plasma via 802.11 b/g WiFi. more>>

Tecom Launches the TechPod All-in-One Multimedia Lectern
Tecom is pleased to announce the launch of the TechPod Multimedia Lectern at the Annual Government Video & Technology Expo 2007 (GVExpo 2007). The TechPod provides trainers with an easy-to-use lectern featuring complete AV control in one unit, using a single, button-based control panel. GVExpo will be held November 14-16 at the Washington, DC Convention Center, and Tecom will be in booth #1141.
