Companies Debut New Products
for CEDIA Expo 2008
By Rebecca Day
As the industry gears up for CEDIA Expo 2008, manufacturers are getting
an early jump on new product announcements before the crush hits Denver
later this week. Look for IP-based products, wireless products, mounting
solutions, and iPod/iPhone-ready gear to have a major presence at the
show. Here’s a peek at what a few manufacturers have up their sleeves.
The Yamaha RX-Z7 AV receiver comes loaded—with HD Radio, iTunes
tagging, internet radio from Rhapsody and Sirius, PC streaming and dual
XM/Sirius inputs. It can be controlled from a networked PC’s web
browser. The unit packs four HDMI inputs and is compatible with DLNA and
Windows Vista.

Coming Home to Windows Home
Server, Part 9
By Eric B. Rux
Back in April, in "Coming Home to Windows Home Server, Part 6," I told
you about my five favorite Windows Home Server (WHS) add-ins. All these
free applications have one thing in common: They're designed to help you
manage your WHS system by either alerting you to potential problems or
giving you insight into your server that you otherwise wouldn't have.
But the add-in I want to tell you about this month is different. It's
designed to add some fun, useful features above and beyond the typical
WHS product that comes off the shelf. It’s called the Website
Management Add-In for Windows Home Server—otherwise known as Whiist.

Touchscreen Media
Room
Our project was part of an interior renovation. We selected a 65in.
plasma, ceiling-mounted LCR and surround loudspeakers, and an in-cabinet
subwoofer based on the architectural constraints of the room. We have
had excellent results with this loudspeaker setup in previous
installations as dialogue is perceived to be coming from the screen with
the benefit of eliminating any clutter on the display wall.
Based on the viewing distances, the clients have a theater-like
experience in an intimate and very comfortable setting. There is
banquette seating with a large combination ottoman footrest/cocktail
table in the rear, curved back of the room. Two swivel chairs are
positioned up front. The video was calibrated by an ISF-certified
technician. Using Sencore test and calibration equipment, adjustments
were made to meet ISF standards and provide the highest quality video.
White balance, color, and sharpness adjustments were made. Audio was
calibrated using Yamaha’s YPAO system, which was incorporated into the
surround receiver.
