Tech-challenged bosses no longer a burden?


For decades, AV designers and technicians have struggled to design systems and facilities that even the most tech-phobic corporate executive would be able -- and willing -- to use. Often, that meant contending with high-level attitudes ranging from "I'm too busy to learn" to "Technology is not my job."

This picture may be changing now. For one thing, it's increasingly hard to hold down any job, even CEO, without at least some basic techno-competence. In order to keep pace with its growing membership and expanding network of providers, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (HPHC), New England's oldest nonprofit health plan, needed to completely update its eight training rooms, with special emphasis on introducing the latest technology.

As HPHC's facilities manager, James Connolly knew all too well the challenges he faced with integrating technology into a new room design. The one-of-a-kind Endovascular Center at the Methodist Hospital of Houston recently received new audio, video, and conferencing systems in the Burge Conference Room installed by systems integrator Ford Audio-Video.
