Screens Getting an Image Makeover

Next time you look up at the ceiling expecting a projection screen to descend, be careful: You might miss the screen rising from the floor.

Sometimes it just isn't practical to hang a screen or mount a powered screen mechanism overhead, notes Andrew Cox, marketing communications specialist at Stewart Filmscreen in Torrance, Calif. Sometimes, he adds, an overhead screen doesn't mesh with an architect's vision.

Thomson CCBN Purchases 27 Marantz PMD570 Units

Thomson CCBN, a provider of integrated information solutions to business and professional clients including major financial corporations, has purchased 27 Marantz Professional PMD570 pro-installation solid-state recorders. The PMD570 systems are in use as the primary audio recording and backup systems for complex streaming Web events, such as shareholder meetings and product launches, that Thomson CCBN hosts in more than 46 countries each year. The 27 Marantz Professional PMD570 flash-based recorders were sold by Dale Pro Audio.

Elmo P30 Combines XGA Document Camera with Digital Effects Slide-show Producer

The ELMO P30 packs a full-featured XGA output document camera and a professional digital effects slide-show producer into a compact 10.4lb. package. Proprietary ImageMate software for presentation and movie creation makes possible storage/playback of still/moving image data and creation of 'PC-less' presentations. MSRP is $2950.

The P30 produces video/film slide shows from images captured on the SD memory card, permitting full manipulation and control of the images saved to its memory. The images can be downloaded to a PC's hard drive via USB port as JPEG images for archiving or for enhancing presentations. It can store more than 2,048 XGA images. Slide shows can be produced from documents, 3D objects, 35mm slides/film strips, merging them into Hollywood-style productions with effects such as fades, wipes, interval slide feed, stripes, doors, and many others. It has a standard 35mm slide/film strip viewer/adapter.

Next-generation Wireless Pad Enhances Interactive Classrooms and Conference Rooms

GTCO CalComp has announced the release of the next generation of the InterWrite SchoolPad and MeetingPad, Bluetooth wireless devices that allow users to interact with their computer from anywhere in the room and create a truly engaging lesson or presentation. The new SchoolPad 400 and MeetingPad 400 provide users a smaller footprint; a longer, 40-hour battery life; and a rechargeable pen. The new devices also incorporate Bluetooth Class I technology to allow users to control their computers from up to 300ft. away.

The InterWrite SchoolPad and MeetingPad are part of a suite of interactive products for the classroom and conference room. The wireless pads can either be used in conjunction with the InterWrite SchoolBoard and MeetingBoard, or they can be used with a projected computer image on any surface to create an interactive whiteboard. In addition, up to seven pads can be connected to the same computer for even greater audience and class participation.
