Belden New Generation® UTP Composite cables are a cost-effective alternative to coaxial cables in CCTV/security installations, plus they are smaller in size and easier to terminate. They require baluns to convert to 75-ohm impedance, but provide pan/tilt/zoom cameras with video, control and power functionality in a single, composite cable pull. www.belden.com/UTPCCTV Corporate A/V Top Story Plummeting prices can create as many problems as they solve. Faced with projectors that cost less than $1,000 and plasma screens that are perennially on sale at the local Big Box, corporate AV users may find they don't need less help making sense of it all -- they need more. Enter InfoComm, whose 2005 edition takes place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, with the conference from June 4-10 and exhibits on the last three days. Installation News Although noise, feedback, uneven coverage, and even unintelligibility are acceptable, perhaps even preferable, on Bourbon Street, they are totally unacceptable when governing bodies convene at New Orleans City Hall. Specifically, the concern centered around the main council chambers, the site of numerous meetings by panels handling the city's business, such as the city council and the planning commission. The root of the problem lies in an antiquated analog sound system that grew increasingly incapable of handling mounting audio demands. Meetings were difficult. Participants were challenged whether listening or speaking. It was virtually impossible to process or route the audio. In short, it was time for a change. ADVERTISEMENT
Product News Extron Electronics has introduced a new Connectivity Configurator, an interactive online tool for designing custom architectural connector solutions for AV systems. The Connectivity Configurator presents an up-to-the-minute list of every Extron Architectural Adapter Plate (AAP) currently available. With this intuitive interface, users can sort through dozens of AAPs by signal or connector type, drag-and-drop AAPs into place, change colors on the fly, and print a summary and an image of each individual configuration. All the components of each configuration can then be ordered using a simple three-step process (requires Extron Dealer website login). The Extron Connectivity Configurator is available now at www.extron.com. ADVERTISEMENT Don't miss this year's InfoComm, the world's largest pro-AV and information communications marketplace, promising the latest in audio, display, projection, conferencing, video production, digital signage, lighting, staging, residential, streaming media and presentations systems. Brush up on education, and meet old and new friends at this once-a-year grand event! Las Vegas: Christie introduces the ChristieNET WAVE (Wireless Audio Video Extension System), a transmitter/receiver solution that replaces VGA cables for computer-based audio/video sources, displays, and projection devices in auditoriums, conference rooms, and houses of worship. The system dramatically increases connectivity options and reduces the cost of AV installations. The ChristieNET WAVE is ideal for digital signage, as well as installations where a wired setup would be inconvenient, costly, or problematic due to the design of the space. A select portfolio of new mounting solutions offering the broadest compatibility with the widest range of digital displays will be introduced to systems resellers and other pro AV professionals by Ergotron at the June 4-10 InfoComm show (Booth #3089). The new AV Communications products, each enabled with Ergotron's proprietary Constant Force (CF) technology, include the Ergotron MC large-display mobile cart, the Ergotron TM large-display tilting wall mount, the Ergotron WM low-profile, large-display wall mount, the Ergotron LX wallmount arm, and the Neo-Flex wallmount lift.
