AV/IT Convergence Fuels a Niche
By Jessaca Gutierrez
Convergence has been the latest buzzword for quite some time. And it's no surprise as every AV product moves towards the network. Now that AV/IT convergence has arrived, what's next? Maybe the opportunities have already arrived at your doorstep with an impatient knock.

Essentially, AV/IT convergence is the shared vision between the AV and IT markets. While some sort of networking has been available to AV products for some time, usually these systems were isolated, a lone ranger of sorts in a tangle of complex systems that were each operated individually. But as more of today's technology become more and more robust, allowing this technology to sit and be operated from one network and control system, corporate buildings, indeed, are becoming intelligent. Systems are being consolidated and operated from one control system. Room automation is no longer part of retro-futurism, but realistically available. The convergence of these two markets is eliminating the redundancy as well as the isolation between all the AV components. more>>

Installation Profile: Aesthetic Connections
By Dan Daley
When you first encounter the new Hearst Tower, located on Eighth Avenue in Manhattan, there is an urge to climb it. The diagrid exterior of the new headquarters building, tubular angled framing chosen by architect Norman Foster, holds in thousands of square feet of glass and makes it look like a set of monkey bars for adults. Inside the foyer, looking up at the mezzanine lobby area and the massive cantilevered supports that let the structure shoot up 46 stories from within the six-story façade of the old Hearst headquarters, vertigo is instantaneous until you get acclimated to the angles.

But it's what you don't see that makes the new Hearst building an icon of its age: a networked IT infrastructure that would probably impress even the building's notoriously crusty namesake—the late media mogul, William Randolph Hearst. more>>

HaiVision and Obzerv Collaborate for Long-range Surveillance Video Encoding
HaiVision Systems announced technical collaboration with Obzerv Technologies. This technical collaboration is aimed to assure codec performance for the specific attributes of video generated by long-range night surveillance cameras.

The rigors of such video include high contrasts, low-light scenes combined with rapid-scene motion created during long-range panning. The technical collaboration between Obzerv and HaiVision has been established to provide performance benchmarks during encoder development and market test activities.
