Software as a Service: Hosted Digital Signage on the Rise

Software as a service (SaaS), often referred to as a hosted application, has proliferated in many business application areas over the past few years—with Salesforce.com as one the earliest and best-known pure SaaS applications. Two years ago, established digital-signage software maker Rise Vision—whose customers include Villanova University, eTrade Financial, and ING Direct—made the decision to "bank [its] business on software as a service" and rebuilt its entire digital-signage content-management system as a hosted application, according to Ryan J. Cahoy, the firm's managing director. In its latest move, Rise Vision announced a new program allowing third-party resellers to become private network operators of the Rise Display Network service. Digital Signage Update spoke with Cahoy to get his take on the advantages of the SaaS approach and the opportunity for AV integrators to offer their own branded, private-label signage solutions to customers. more>>

JM Rental purchases 1,000 panels of Lighthouse 4mm LED screen
In a move that sees further expansion to its LED rental business, Hong Kong-based JM Rental has acquired 1,000 panels of Lighthouse R4-S 4mm LED screen to add to its already significant inventory of Lighthouse panels. Break HDMI/DVI-D Distance Barriers with TV One's Cat-5/Cat-6 Transmitters
TVOne-task's newest product family consists of one Cat-5/Cat-6 transmitter and two receivers. The 1T-CT-621 transmitter used in conjunction with the 1T-CT-624 receiver can achieve distances up to 150 meters (450ft.) while the 1T-CT-628 receiver can achieve distances up to 250 meters (750ft.). The units can handle maximum resolutions up to 1920x1200 and 1080p at 60Hz with embedded audio. They are HDCP and v1.2 HDMI compliant. For normal operation, two Cat-5/Cat-5E or Cat-6 cables are required, one for the main signal and one for the HDCP/DDC signal. more>>
