Consultants not just for big jobs any more

Whether providing church media professionals with unbiased information and advice, or acting as their "eyes and ears" in project execution, independent consultants have an increasingly high profile in church AV these days.

For one thing, hiring a consultant is no longer an option only for the largest churches looking at the most ambitious installs. "The non-mega churches are really beginning to rely heavily on our services," says Chuck Walthall of Walthall and Associates in Pensacola, Fla. Walthall says the size of the church or the budget isn't the key to whether a consultant will be involved in an AV job. That decision has more to do with the church's desire for an independent source of good information, he says. "We bring them rock-solid information on which they can make good decisions." Atlas Sound delivers intelligibility to Phoenix Church

From stadiums to airports to classrooms and office buildings, Atlas Sound is transforming listening experiences all over the world. In late October, Atlas Sound took the sanctuary at Northern Hills Community Church in Phoenix, AZ and changed it from a conventional weekly gathering place to a sonically accurate and aesthetically pleasing house of worship all by adding a few Atlas Sound SM12CXT high performance loudspeakers.

NHCC, a relatively small church nestled in north central Phoenix, caters to a congregation of about 250. The church offers three services each Sunday, one traditional and two contemporary; the contemporary offering a full complement of instruments including bass guitar, drums, synthesizers, guitar and vocals. The previous system in the sanctuary, consisting of three large format trapezoid boxes, left much to be desired. Laden with directivity challenges, the sound often splashed against the back walls and reflected off the ceiling of the sanctuary creating hot spots and dead zones translating into less than desirable intelligibility and an inaccurate musical experience. Alcons Audio develops RBN1801 pro-ribbon driver

Based on the principles of Isophasic planar driver technology, the RBN1801 resets the bar for ribbon technology standards with spectacular specifications: the effective radiation length of 18" / 46cm offers an extreme power handling of 3kW (for 200ms, which is ten times the industry standard) and a very high efficiency of 108dB with 1W @ 1m. With a 90-degree wave-guide, this efficiency even rises to 110dB, with a frequency operating range of 1 kHz -- 20 kHz. (+/-3dB). Click here for more...
