"Godcasts" Hot New Tools of
Evangelism
Next time you see someone on the street with those
tiny earphones linked to a miniature device on a belt clip, don't be too
quick to assume they're listening to the latest from the Black Eyed
Peas.
Chances are good it's actually a sermon. The Word has gone mobile
recently, fueled by (and actually driving) the phenomenal growth of
podcastingdistributing programs directly to personal digital music
players, computers, and other devices. more>>

Danley Crosses The
Bridge
Across the United States, there are a growing number
of "portable" churcheshouses of worship that hold services in
rented facilities such as schools and community centers. Each week, the
church staff and volunteers gather before the service to erect their
temporary worship space, and then, when the worship is finished, they
pack up.
"There is an enormous number of churches that are doing this. They
are setting up and tearing down every week using an auditorium or a
gymnasium," observes Mike Hedden, president of Gainesville, Ga.-based
systems integrator dB
Audio and Video and partner in loudspeaker manufacturer Danley Sound
Labs. "Usually the bar is pretty low in terms of quality of audio,
because they figure that since they are portable, there is only so much
they can do." more>>

Shoebox Solution: QSC at Wilson
Baptist Church
"Wilson Baptist is a church built in the classic
shoebox style," notes Kelly Carter of HamesPro, the design/build systems integration firm
tasked with giving the sanctuary new voice. "When I first visited the
site, I found a pair of full-range loudspeakers hung on either side of
the pulpit. For Winfred Wilson, the minister of music, the biggest
problem with this arrangement occurred when the system was turned up
enough to enable the people in the rear pews to hear, and the people in
the front row were blasted out of their seats. Clearly, it was time for
a change."
Based in Gaffney, S.C., HamesPro took a distributed approach to
devising a new blueprint, enlisting a half-dozen of QSC Audio's
AcousticDesign AD-S82H loudspeakers to cover the house and a pair of
AD-S82 enclosures to serve as stage monitors. Deployed in a line
suspended from the ceiling along a 90ft. span stretching from the pulpit
to the house mix position at the other end of the sanctuary, the six
modular AD-S82H cabinets were spaced in three rows of two each with the
goal of providing smooth, intelligible sound not wavering beyond +/-3dB
in coverage from front to back. Mounted on the back of the row of
AD-S82Hs nearest the pulpit and facing toward the stage, the single pair
of AD-S82s are barely visible from the pews. more>>

DPI Introduces New dVision
Projectors
Digital Projection International (DPI), a
manufacturer of high-performance projection systems, announced the
company's first entry into the native 1080p display market with its
single-chip DLP dVision 1080p projector. The company also introduced
three other new single-chip models, including two native XGA dVision
projectors and a higher brightness version of the current dVision sx+.
All four new products will join DP's existing dVision lineup, and will
be available in the first quarter of this year.
The new dVision 1080p features the latest .95in. DarkChip3 DMD from
Texas Instruments,
which supports a native resolution of 1920x1080. With user-adjustable
light output from 500-2500 ANSI lumens and a contrast ratio up to
6000:1, the dVision 1080p presents virtually any video, HD, or computer
source with remarkable resolution and dynamic imaging characteristics.
Connectivity to input devices is provided via Digital Projection's VIP

circuit from Silicon Optix. Among other capabilities, the VIP
1000 employs true 1080i to 1080p de-interlacing, HQV video enhancement,
dynamic noise reduction, adaptive scaling, and 10-bit processing, all
tailored to optimize the performance of every source presented to the
dVision 1080p display. Six lens options, with an extensive range of
motorized horizontal and vertical lens shift, provide the dVision 1080p
with unparalleled adaptability for permanent installations. more>>

Crown Adds Networking to CTs
Multichannel Models
Crown International announced the addition of an
HiQnet and CobraNet networking option for its CTs 4200a and CTs 8200
amplifier models. Larry Baker, director of marketing for installed sound
at Crown, made the announcement: "With the addition of full network
audio transport and system control capabilities to the CTs multichannel
amplifiers, the CTs series offers unrivaled flexibility for systems
requiring networked audio for multiple zones, which are common in
today's designs."
CTs 4200a and CTs 8200 models ordered with the networking option can
connect to a 100Mbps Ethernet network using standard Ethernet hardware
(switches, network interface cards, and cables) allowing them to be
remotely controlled and monitored with Harman Pro
HiQnet System Architect software. In addition, realtime digital audio
can be transported over the same Ethernet network via CobraNet,
providing a simple-to-install, single-plug solution for audio
distribution, control, and monitoring. more>>
