Broadcasters' Show Expands Appeal to Worship Niche

"Churches have the most important product in the world to deliver," says R. Bob Adams, director of technical communications at SLS Loudspeakers, Houston, Texas. "Regrettably, with the exception of a very few ministries, churches are delivering this important information in a sub-standard way."

This is one of the factors Adams believes are leading more and more church media specialists to mark their calendars for an event that, at first glance, may not seem directly aimed at the church market at all: the upcoming National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas April 16-21. JBL Professional and JC Productions Light a Fire in Sparks, Nev.

Demonstrating its ability to provide specifically targeted, advanced technology loudspeaker systems for challenging church installations, JBL Professional announced that it supplied JC Productions in Sparks, Nev., with PD Series loudspeakers for a design/build project at Summit Christian Church.

Scott Schmidt, owner of JC Productions, was hired by the church to work on the project, which involved designing and outfitting a completely new structure. Pastors Steve Bond and Steve Denney indicated the new church building would house contemporary music services featuring national acts, as well as host dramatic productions, banquets, and meetings. L-Acoustics Launches KUDO

L-Acoustics' KUDO is a new generation of line source array offering far more flexibility and possibilities than any other line array to date. KUDO marks a significant evolution in L-Acoustics' Wavefront Sculpture Technology (WST) since WST can now be performed in both vertical and horizontal planes.

Two patented DOSC waveguides are incorporated in KUDO, allowing WST to be performed either vertically or horizontally. In parallel, coverage pattern adjustment is available in the perpendicular plane using patent-pending K-Louver technology. Mechanically adjustable K-Louvers provide directivity control for the mid/high section and allow KUDO to be reconfigured with four different coverage pattern settings. Click here for more...

Drums Designed with the Church in Mind

In churches today, there is an ongoing need to control the volume of an acoustic drum kit, which in turn necessitates an electronic set to be considered. One of the main concerns of most drummers was the ability to obtain a "real feel" out of electronic drums, as many utilize a mesh or rubber playing surface. In an attempt to satisfy the drummer and the sound engineer, R.E.T. Percussion first created the Natural Series custom shop electronic drum kits in 2000. This second generation, called The Natural Series 2 (NS2), is designed for all types of worship music and gives drummers the look and feel they have always wanted, while giving the sound engineer control over the volume of the drums.

Using real drumheads with a 13in. playing surface, the R.E.T. NS2 triggering system truly gives the same feel as an acoustic kit, but with the sounds and benefits of an electronic kit. R.E.T. uses a unique muffling system that cuts stick noise levels by 60 decibels and gives the drummer more natural dynamics and stick bounce. R.E.T.'s NS2 technology takes full advantage of the latest modules with dual tom triggering and locking Neutrik connectors for the best connection in the industry. Click here for more...

Sound Reinforcement for Operators (Click on link for course agenda.)
Sound Reinforcement for Operators is a new seminar. The sound systems installed today are amazingly complex, and the productions/performances are routinely taken to new levels. Running sound today is a very involved process and specialized training is needed for operators. Today's audiences appreciate good sound and notice when the sound is not good. This course will help you get the most out of a sound system.

Sound Reinforcement for Technicians (Click on link for course agenda.)
This course is for those who must install, hook up, and tune sound reinforcement systems. It covers the theory behind how systems work, and demonstrates how to use instrumentation to look "under the hood" to troubleshoot systems. Advanced topics such as crossover alignments and equalization are presented in a technical, yet practical, manner. This course is for those who already know the basics of operation, but want to dig further into how systems work and how to fix them when they don't. This course is very similar to the System Optimization Seminar that has been offered in previous years. Click here for more...
