Churches Rigged for Trouble?

A key feature of the new, 400,000-square-foot facility now under construction for Idlewild Baptist Church near Tampa, Fla., is a series of eight catwalks designed to accommodate hundreds of light fixtures and other devices. But megachurches aren't the only worship sites with ambitious rigging plans, and experts fear many churches, in all size ranges, are giving this critical topic short shrift.

Churches represent a big opportunity for rigging designers and contractors, notes Bill Sapsis of Sapsis Rigging, Lansdowne, Pa. "It's no secret the church industry is very attractive," he says. "It's a growing market that is also being cultivated by the industry." Click here for more...

Calvary Chapel Offers Language Interpretation with Listen Technologies

Calvary Chapel of Salt Lake City, Utah, is reaching out to its Hispanic neighbors by providing realtime language interpretation of its services using a wireless audio system from Listen Technologies Corporation. Using a Listen wireless personal receiver, Spanish-speaking congregants can listen to "La Palabra Buena" (the Good Word) being interpreted by a couple of bi-lingual volunteers who take turns interpreting the services.

Jim Harris, the church administrator, says, "We are pleased with how easy it is to use and how well it works. The system has integrated really well into our existing sound system." He says that the personal receivers enable churchgoers to sit wherever they want and still hear the interpretation clearly, rather than sitting in a specified section next to an interpreter.Click here for more...

Daystar TV Tunes Into Gepco to Meet Audio/Video Cable Needs

What began as the vision of a husband and wife in Alabama back in 1984 has blossomed into the second largest and fastest growing Christian television network in the world. Daystar Television Network, founded by Marcus and Joni Lamb, traces its roots back to WMCF-TV 45 in Montgomery, Ala. By 1985, Channel 45 became the first full-power Christian television station in Alabama. Two decades later, Daystar operates over 40 television stations in major markets across the United States (with construction permits for another 15) with production facilities in Dallas, Houston, and Denver. Having expanded well beyond the early days of Channel 45, Daystar's 86,000-square-foot International Ministry Center, based in Bedford, Texas, includes two state-of-the-art production studios wired from top to bottom with Gepco cables. Latest Bag End Speaker Powers Up

Part of Bag End's Gem Collection of high-performance speaker systems, the P-Crystal is the latest speaker in the Barrington, Ill., manufacturer's inventory now available with an optional built-in 1,000W modular amplifier, the Minima One.

The Minima One is a high-fidelity, high-efficiency, 1,000W internal modular amplifier that weighs just 5lbs. More than 80 percent efficient, it provides more power to the loudspeaker and creates less heat in the amplifier than conventional designs. Incorporating patented technology, the comparison circuit of the module corrects each individual cycle. On average, every four microseconds, the one-cycle modulator transforms and amplifies the input signal into the ideal, natural pulse width modulation. Switching at 250kHz with the single cycle error correction ensures low distortion and high reliability. Click here for more...
