A key feature of the new, 400,000-square-foot facility now under construction for Idlewild Baptist Church near Tampa, Fla., is a series of eight catwalks designed to accommodate hundreds of light fixtures and other devices. But megachurches aren't the only worship sites with ambitious rigging plans, and experts fear many churches, in all size ranges, are giving this critical topic short shrift.
Churches represent a big opportunity for rigging designers and
contractors, notes Bill Sapsis of Sapsis
Rigging,
Lansdowne, Pa. "It's no secret the church industry is very attractive,"
he says. "It's a growing market that is also being cultivated by the
industry." Click here for more... Installation News Calvary
Chapel Offers Language Interpretation with Listen Technologies
Calvary Chapel of Salt Lake City, Utah, is reaching out to its Hispanic neighbors by providing realtime language interpretation of its services using a wireless audio system from Listen Technologies Corporation. Using a Listen wireless personal receiver, Spanish-speaking congregants can listen to "La Palabra Buena" (the Good Word) being interpreted by a couple of bi-lingual volunteers who take turns interpreting the services.
Jim Harris, the church administrator, says, "We are pleased with how
easy it is to use and how well it works. The system has integrated
really
well into our existing sound system." He says that the personal
receivers enable churchgoers to sit wherever they want and still hear
the interpretation clearly, rather than sitting in a specified section
next to an interpreter.Click here for more...
