Audio is Big News in Small
Churches
Even among small churches with modest audio needs and
budgets, "contractors today can really surprise their clients with what
can be done," says Guy Low, public relations producer at Telex Audio Group, which
encompasses such brands as EV, Dynacord, Midas, Klark Teknik, Telex, and
RTS.
In fact, he adds, upgrading basic audio capabilities at the so-called
"low end" of the worship market is shaping up as a major boom. "As a
trend, this is making a major impact," Low says. more>>

Community's iBox Goes
Wide
Grace
Covenant Church has a new lease on life, and what a life it is. The
members of this mid-sized Downingtown, Penn., congregation joined
together with a neighboring church, and got right to work on redoing
their new shared premises. The mid-20th century building is of a
traditional design but presented some unique acoustical challenges.
"The room is exceptionally wide, but not very deep, with the stage
platform and organ chambers on a long wall," explains audio designer
Tony Hersch of Audiobahn in nearby Pottstown. Four rows of seating
call for 150 degrees of coverage, and the shallow rear wall challenges
intelligibility. more>>

Lakewood Church Media Center
Equipped With AudioTile
Following its successful launch at AES in New York City,
AudioTile was recently installed in the new media center at Joel
Osteen's Lakewood Church. AudioTile, designed by Russ Berger
for Auralex
Acoustics, provides an attractive means of blending absorption,
diffusion, and reflection for optimum acoustical balance. The
patent-pending AudioTile is one of the first offerings in the new
pArtScience product line from Auralex, a family of acoustical treatments
designed for exceptional performance with a custom look, all at an
affordable price.
AudioTile ShockWave was selected for the primary recording studio in
the new 10,000 square-foot facility. "The treatment was laid out with
heavier coverage near the floor, gradually tapering off to very little
coverage closer to the ceiling," says Brian Wheat, product marketing
manager for Auralex Acoustics. "By doing this, we accomplished several
major goals: providing the room with good low-frequency control with
thicker treatments near the floor/wall corners, creating a very tight
sound in areas where drums or amplifiers might be placed, and
simultaneously offering a nice reverberant sound in upper areas where
overhead and/or ambient room microphones would be placed." more>>

JBL's New Line-Array Technology
Serves Small and Mid-size Venues
JBL
Professional's new VRX932LA portable line array system brings the
tour-sound-proven versatility and performance of its Vertec series line
array to performers and smaller venues, AV rental companies, and
entertainers traveling with their own PA system. The VRX932LA is a
compact 12in., two-way line array loudspeaker designed for use in arrays
of up to six units.
Each speaker has a 15-degree (nominal) vertical coverage angle. This
means that a single enclosure or arrays consisting of two or three
speakers can provide practical vertical coverage.
The speaker is ideal for smaller environments requiring line array
performance without the long-throw characteristics of larger systems.

Dolby Lake Processor Takes
Sound Management to a New Level
The Dolby Lake Processor from Dolby
Laboratories is the first product to combine Dolby's and Lake
Technology's audio expertise. The digital signal processing hardware and
software system provides advanced loudspeaker management and
equalization functionality. It is easy to install and use, providing
sound engineers the control and flexibility they need to focus on the
audio quality for tour sound, fixed installations, and studio
applications.
"The new Dolby Lake Processor combines trusted Dolby audio expertise
with visionary, high-quality solutions from Lake Technology," says Ervin
Grinberg, marketing manager for Dolby. "The Dolby Lake Processor enables
the sound engineer to focus on the quality of sound rather than the
technicalities of the sound system." more>>
