The Media Minister's Bulging
Bookshelf
The church media minister can sometimes feel all alone
in the world, especially when first embarking on an enterprise that can
seem vast, expensive, and complex. For many, the first place to turn for
help is the library or bookstore, and these sources continue to grow in
importance as the list of helpful titles continues to expand.
Many leading equipment vendors offer printed reference materials and
guidance. Shure, for
instance, has published a 59-page Audio Systems Guide for Houses of Worship. It covers
such basics as "what is good sound?" along with detailed advice on
selecting the right microphone for pulpit, choir, handheld, and other
uses.
The library of printed how-to guides for applying media to worship
continues to grow.

Making an Acoustically
Difficult Sanctuary Work: Cornerstone Family Church
Conceived only 14 years ago by pastors Dan and Anne
Berry, the non-denominational Cornerstone Family Church (Des Moines, Iowa) had
lived with its audio system for more than 10 years, in spite of growth
that expanded its sanctuary seating capacity to 1,100.
"Most of the equipment was eight to 10 years old," says Terry
McClannahan, Cornerstone Family Church director of operations. "The
system had come together piecemeal. Some of the equipment had been
purchased new; some of it was used. When pieces of the system failed,
they were replaced, but without evaluation of the whole." more>>

Organ Design
Inter-M QD-4480 4-channel power amplifiers drive an

directly with audio waveforms. The proprietary modeling language,
developed by Bradford University and then refined by Musicom (both in
the U.K.), can be used as a control system for traditional pipe organs,
as the basis for digital organs, or a combination of the two. more>>
