Certification Develops for HDMI-equipped Products
Consumer electronics retailers are pushing the adoption of HDMI certification in the hopes of eliminating customer confusion and incompatibilities that have dogged the interface since its introduction to the market. Addressing reporters at a recent press conference in New York sponsored by HDMI Licensing, Silicon Image, and Dolby Laboratories, Mitsubishi product development director David Naranjo said an announcement is pending from a major retailer requiring all HDMI products sold in its stores to have passed a certification program such as Silicon Image's Simplay HD. more>>

Bringing the THX Experience Home
Doherty Design Group's client had an affinity for two things: elliptical shapes and Biedermeier furniture, along with the explicit desire to contain the sound within the theater. Space limitations and acoustical performance concerns prohibited an entirely elliptical room. The design features a theater with a rounded front and rear that are amplified by the three overlapping elliptical ceiling features. The convex acoustical panels nested between the columns in the sidewalls serve as a visual counterpoint to the ceiling feature. more>>

All-in-one Surround Speaker Console from Soundmatters
The SLIMstage from Soundmatters is an all-in-one surround speaker console designed to mount beneath a flatpanel TV. Eight amplifiers provide 210W of power from a 39"x3.3"x3.4" (WxHxD) enclosure. SLIMstage delivers stereo and 5.1-channel signals without the need for reflecting walls or an external subwoofer thanks to EuphonyHD virtual surround technology. The enclosure packs nine bass drivers, including three down-firing subwoofers and six mass radiators providing extension down to 45Hz.
