Events Will be Popular but Budgets Tight in 2010, says Special Events Corporate Study
Yes to events, but no to better budgets in 2010. That's the reading from this year's "Corporate Event Marketplace Study," presented every year by Special Events Magazine. The year 2009 has taken its toll. Some 38 percent say they will stage fewer than their "typical" number of events this year, while 49 percent say they will stage about the same amount. Disneyland Hotel Upgrading Guest Rooms, Offering Signature Suites
All 969 guest rooms at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, Calif., are going through an upgrade, which will roll out in phases from 2010 through 2012. The large rooms—which average 400 square feet—will feature a contemporary look along with distinctive touches such as fiber-optic headboards displaying the Disneyland skyline lighted with fireworks. The rooms will offer high-speed Internet access along with eco-friendly features such as low-flow toilets, occupancy sensors and energy-saving windows. Now open at the property is the 1,600-square-foot, two-bedroom Mickey Mouse Penthouse (see photo), replete with whimsical Mickey Mouse decor and a panoramic view of Disneyland Park and Disney's California Adventure. Also available is the Pirates of the Caribbean Suite. The property includes a 136,000-square-foot convention center.

"Gone With the Wind" House Offers New Exhibits
Margaret Mitchell House, the Atlanta house where Mitchell wrote "Gone With the Wind," debuts two new exhibits for visitors this month. The exhibits explore her life, the famous novel and the making of the multiple-Oscar-winning 1939 film. The three-story, Tudor-revival home offers 3,700 square feet of event space, parlor rooms and covered porches in a courtyard setting with a sunken garden and front lawn. A gallery space is suited for lectures and presentations along with seated dinners and dancing. Amenities include free limited parking, guided tours, on-site security and experienced event staff.

Santa Monica's Pacific Park Debuts Seaside Pavilion Event Space
The new 3,400-square-foot Seaside Pavilion event facility opened last month at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica [Calif.] Pier. Suitable for corporate events, wrap parties, movie premieres and social events, the covered pavilion can host groups from 25 to 300 guests, management says. A partial buy-out can give access for from 300 to 500 guests, while an exclusive, private function can accommodate up to 2,000 guests. The pier features 12 amusement rides, 21 midway games and an oceanfront food plaza. Signature rides include the Pacific Wheel, the world's first solar-powered Ferris wheel.

Glowing Tumblers Debut from GlasShine
Glass tumblers from GlasShine begin to glow after guests touch them, giving guests an exciting sense of being full of energy, the manufacturer says. The units' battery and light diodes are hermetically sealed within the bottom of the glass, enabling the glass to be washed even in a dish machine without ill effects. The tumblers can be branded with a company or event logo.
