Food City CEO: We're Not for Sale
   

The president and chief executive officer of K-VA-T Food Stores here told a local newspaper that the Food City chain "is not for sale and probably won't be in my lifetime."

Bi-Lo, Creditors Agree on Plan Extension
   

A federal bankruptcy judge has approved a compromise between Bi-Lo and its creditors to extend the deadline by which the retailer can file an exclusive plan of reorganization. Bi-Lo, facing a July 21 deadline, now has until Sept. 21 to file a plan.

A Sendik's supermarket here that is closing after one year in business will be replaced by a Pick 'n Save store later this year, according to local sources.

Convenience-store chain The Pantry here has completed the acquisition of 38 stores formerly operated by Herndon Oil. The stores operate under a variety of banners including Flamingo, primarily in the Mobile, Ala. market.

Kmart Offers Discounts to Unemployed in Michigan
   

Kmart has introduced the Kmart Smart Assist Savings Card in Michigan, offering 20% discounts on more than 1,200 private-label grocery and drug-store items to unemployed shoppers in the state. Verifiably unemployed Michigan residents who register at kmart.com can receive the discount card, which is valid for up to six months.

C&S Wholesale Grocers here announced yesterday that it will "significantly increase use of environmentally responsible initiatives" in its operations in an effort to reduce the company's carbon footprint.
