Telephony's IPTV Workshop Oct. 29 | Boston | At Fall VON We've
been conducting IPTV Workshops for more than a year now, but this
year's
event
promises something different because IPTV is now a growing reality for
a
much
larger group of customers than it has been in the past, thanks to
AT&T's
deployment of U-verse.
To be fair, the networking giant is following the pioneering work of many independent telcos, but it is now adding 1000 customers a day to its service, with a near-term goal of increasing that to 10,000 a week. With the movement of IPTV into the broader market, issues that weren't as prevalent now move to the fore. Scalability, security and service differentiation are among the prime concerns, and they are also prime topics at this year's IPTV Workshop. Keynote speaker Alan Young, senior vice president and CTO of SES Americom, will offer a unique perspective on these issues as someone whose company is deploying IPTV across the U.S. with independent and rural players. We'll be looking at different ways IPTV providers are making TV more personal using IPTV, including the near- and long-term possibilities for multi-screen strategies, talking with consultant Rory Altman, analyst Danny Briere and industry executive Brian Caskey of UTStarcom. We will also be talking with experts in the field of security about how service providers are protecting themselves and their content licensees from theft of service and theft of content. Our experts include Steven Hawley of Advanced Media Strategies, Manish Singh of Continuous Computing and Meir Lehrer of NDS. Quality is another real-world issue for IPTV, and our roster of panelists on this topic includes Mike Hollier of Psytechnics, Mike Humes of Tektronix and Deepesh Arora of Ixia. It's always fun to speculate on what a new service will offer and what it will require, but this year's IPTV Workshop will go beyond that speculation to real-world experience. Featured Events Fall
