To be fair, the networking giant is following the pioneering work of many independent telcos, but it is now adding 1000 customers a day to its service, with a near-term goal of increasing that to 10,000 a week.

With the movement of IPTV into the broader market, issues that weren't as prevalent now move to the fore. Scalability, security and service differentiation are among the prime concerns, and they are also prime topics at this year's IPTV Workshop.

Keynote speaker Alan Young, senior vice president and CTO of SES Americom, will offer a unique perspective on these issues as someone whose company is deploying IPTV across the U.S. with independent and rural players.
