Protecting Power Systems for Engineers, PROT 401
This course addresses the basic elements of designing power system
protection for distribution lines, transmission lines, transformers, and
buses. Course participants will review: power system basics, including
per-unit and three-phase power concepts; symmetrical component concepts
and fault analysis; relaying fundamentals; instrument transformers;
basic digital relay concepts. Students will explore: Application of
overcurrent, directional, distance, and differential relays to
transmission lines, distribution lines, buses, and transformers;
distribution system protective devices and their coordination; distance
and pilot protection schemes used for transmission line protection;

SEL Transmission Substation Relay Testing, TST 107
This course covers skills required to enter settings, test, commission,
and troubleshoot this class of SEL relays. The student will: Review
skills required to work with SEL relays; learn about specific
transmission relay testing considerations; practice those skills through
working with different relays throughout the course; gain familiarity
with the operating principles of each type of relay; explore the
features of SEL relay technology to make appropriate choices when
designing test routines. A variety of SEL relays will be used during
the training including percentage restrained differential (SEL-387),
phase and ground distance (SEL-321), and line current differential

Transmission Reliability Study Using PSS®E
Course provides an overview of transmission reliability and discusses
assessment tools and methods, criteria and practices, deterministic and
probabilistic measures. Students will participate in hands-on experience
in the use of PSS¨E for transmission reliability analysis, including
data setup, contingency enumeration process, solution engines, switching
events, corrective actions, outage probabilities and customer based
indices. This is a course for all who plan, operate, design or use

Covers practical applications of PSS®MUST for transfer

transactions on control areas, sensitivity analysis for the most
limiting constraints, generation dispatch sensitivity analysis on
transfer limits, identification of the "must run" units, and NERC

Understanding Power System Dynamic Behavior

Circuit Breaker Maintenance, Low-Voltage (1000V or Less)
This course covers components and maintenance requirements
for power circuit breakers equipped with electro-mechanical and
solid-state trip devices. Students will perform a complete circuit
breaker service in lab: inspection, removal, disassembly, cleaning,
tightening, reassembly, lubrication and adjustment; use high current
test sets, perform contact resistance and meghometer testing; and read
and interpret manufacturers' trip curves.

Basics, TST 101
In PROT 301 this course addresses the basic methods, tools, and devices
used in the field of power system protection. Course participants will
study power system basics including per-unit and three-phase power
concepts; symmetrical component concepts and fault analysis; relaying
fundamentals; protecting Power Systems for Technicians; SEL Relay
Testing Basics the course will then move into TST 101. This course
provides a beginner-level introduction to testing SEL relays. The
student will learn basic relay testing skills; acquire skills required
to work with SEL relays, such as using Relay Word bits and relay event
reports; practice acquired skills by working with a phase and ground
