MIG welding is the most common welding process found in fabricating
shops.
While it has been around since the early 1940s, MIG welding has evolved
to accommodate two forces:
* First, MIG welding has been expanded to include an increasingly broad
range of materials and applications.
* Second, welders have searched for ways to reduce the costs of
consumables and maintenance and set-up for the MIG process.

Respirators can be a critical piece of equipment for welders, but
there is resistance to using them.
Welders say they are uncomfortable or awkward, that moisture builds up
inside of them, and that they don't fit correctly with welding helmets,
and the list goes on and on.
However, as a vital part of shop safety, the use of respirators is a
concern for manufacturers.
Regulatory issues play a large role in the costs of manufacturing, so
managers are responsible for overseeing safety and regulatory issues and
ensuring that every employee keeps these issues in the forefront of
their minds.

Eliminating waste on the factory floor is a key principle of lean
management and, for welding one of the biggest sources of waste is
shielding gas.
While welders are aware of the amount of shielding gas they waste,
especially at start-up, management often overlooks this source of waste.
However, when the cost of that shielding gas is calculated, many shops
find that it is a considerable drain on profit.

Increased labor and unessential equipment costs, expensive warranty
work and decreased productivity are some of the problems that
manufacturers face because of silicon deposits in their welds.
Silicon is a deoxidizing agent that is added to filler metals to create
cleaner, stronger welds. It removes impurities that might be caused by
surface contaminants, such as mill scale and light rust, and brings them
to the surface of the weld as the puddle solidifies.

Not all weight sets are created equal, and when top health clubs,
professional sports teams, corporate fitness centers, U.S. Armed Forces
and other institutions need free weights, the majority turn to Iron Grip
Barbell Company.
Scott Frasco and Michael Rojas founded Iron Grip in 1993, introducing
weight plates that featured integrated handgrips and a special design
that represented a significant improvement to one of the oldest pieces
of fitness equipment.
